By 17 she had fallen in love with making animated films. Soon after that, Sonya enrolled in Hampshire college and began teaching animation to children all across the country while she earned her B.A. in film making and photography. A few years later she began teaching film at harvard university. she said "it was pretty astonishing, considering I was only a few years older than my students and I probably couldn't have even gotten in to the school if I had applied!" Sones soon moved to bigger things in hollywood where she worked for a famous movie director as his assistant... and fired a month later.
After Spending a small amount of time as a film editor, editing movies such as cult classic , urban cowboy, and rivers edger, she met her future husband, Bennet, working on the set of mork and mindy. Soon after they were married, Sonya Sones gave birth to her daughter, Ava, and quit the film buisness. she soon got bored of her new job, designing baby clothes, and needed to find a new way of satisfying her creative urges. By then Sones had her second child, Jeremy as well. Sonya enjoyed reading to her children so much that she enrolled in a poetry class at UCLA, taught by Myra Cohn Livingston. This is what inspired her to writ her first book Stop Pretending: What Happened when My Sister Went Crazy
When Sonya's not writing, she travels around the country speaking about writing and giving workshops. Sones also likes to bake, read, worry and hunt for "burried treasures" in flea markets and vintage clothes stores. She now lives 26 blocks from the beach only a few miles outside of hollywood.
